So the 4th of July weekend has come and gone - a time of fireworks and giving thanks to our country and our troops! As James and I were road-tripping across the state to James' brother's house in Jupiter for the three day weekend, it hit me that half of the year is official over...crazy! [It is 'epiphanies' like this that have lead me love road trips - I beleive there is nothing more theraputic than the time to reflect on your thoughts....nothing but you and the open road].
Back to my point - this got me to thinking that I have yet achieve all the goals I had set for myself. For me, the year 2011 meant renewal and a fresh start - James and I were embarking on a New Beginning...literally and figuratively! We celebrated New Year's Eve a little differently this year since days before that, we had just moved into our NEW PLACE :) It was only a month earlier that we had decided to uproot ourselves and picked up our lives in Melbourne Florida (where we had shared 8 wonderful years building memories and relationships that simply irreplaceable and near and dear to our hearts) and begun starting over in sunny Sarasota. So NYE this year was spent excitedly unpacking boxes and putting together our new entertainment center (of which we got on clearance :) Once we got the entertainment center put together and assembled the tv,dvd, etc - we curled up on the couch watching a movie and toasting to the new chapter in our lives! We had so much to be thankful for and look forward to in the coming year - new place, new job, new outlook, new friends and the wedding only a few months away!
The year prior to that had been full of highs and lows. Overall, James and I were both happy to see the year 2010 go. Though it was the year that James [finally] proposed it was also only weeks later that we found out James had a tumor on his pituitary in his head. From that point on, the excited glow of engagement quickly faded into fear and concern. Within a month, we were off to Boston to meet with the best surgeon money can buy at the Brigham Women's hospital....where he had the pituitary adenoma removed on March 2nd, 2011. I stayed with him at the hospital never leaving his side during recovery. Needless to say, James is a fighter and after only 72 hours he was out of the hospital bed and on a plane back to Florida. After a few months of close monitoring and follow up appointments, we started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. No more headaches, increased energy....I had my old boy friend back....it was like we had just started dating again! I can't thank God enough for keep a close watch over us and seeing us through this! So June 2010 had come, the clouds had cleared....and my parents were throwing us a long-awaited engagement party! We had never felt so loved and cared for as we did that weekend.....all of the people closest to us went out of their way to travel to Melbourne to attend. We had felt completely renewed and stronger than ever with our friends and family behind us! Now it was time to official start the wedding planning!!!!
So, as I reflected on all this in the car ride over to Jupiter on 4th of July weekend - I was reminded of all the blessings we have shared so far. James and I are finally husband and wife - I am Mrs. Phillips! I could not have asked for a more perfect day - our wedding was memorable, beautiful, heart-felt, and amazing. We got married at sunset along the intercoastal waterway at the Eau Gallie Yacht club in Indian Harbour Beach. We held a deep connection with the Melbourne area and the water - so we could not have hoped for a better place to say our vows with the sun setting behind us. We went on our honeymoon to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which was beautiful. The trip was perfect and just what we needed in order to wind down from the wedding weekend. And now that the wedding festivities are over with, I can focus on getting back into the groove of my normal life as a married women - focus on my professional career and yield more attention to my health and wellness.
So here's for setting new goals for my 'half the year is over' new years resolution:
- more yoga!! need a clear mind
- switch up my workouts - run, bike, weights, snorkel
- less stress - leave work at work
- study - pass the FE exam in October
- reassess my goals after the exam to include taking a culinary class....need to eat greener and cleaner!
Happy 'Half-way There' New Year
